THE NATIONAL YOUTH CHOIR "A Coeur Joie"
A COEUR JOIE is a movement created 50 years ago which continues to develop the choral singing tradition in France and abroad. The fundamental idea which inspires its members is a simple one : to bring together all those who want to blend their voices in a choir in a wide variety of musical styles.
In creating the Choeur National des Jeunes in 1999, the "A Coeur Joie" movement wanted to offer young experienced singers the possibility to approach a high quality polyphonic repertoire and above all to introduce young people to choral singing in an up to date and attractive way. Success ! In giving birth to a highly musical ensemble, A Coeur Joie has created its own dynamic which favours the blossoming of mixed youth choirs and ensures the beginning of a whole new generation of choral conductors.
The 28 singers, age range from 18 to 28, are chosen for their vocal and artistic qualities and they each enjoy individual vocal training in order to attain polyphonic excellence. The rhythm of the rehearsals - alternating summer sessions and Master Classes during the year - enable the singers to prepare and perform a different concert programme every year. The Choeur National des Jeunes was doubly rewarded in 2000 at the Florilege Vocal in Tours (National competition) by a second medal in the mixed choir category and by the prize for "mixed categories" (vocal ensembles, mixed choirs and male or female voice choirs). It is sponsored musically by the National Youth Choir of Argentina directed by Nestor Zadoff, winner of many international competitions.
Jean-Marie Puissant manages a varied and impressive career as a solo singer, choral and orchestral conductor and teacher. He has directed the The Choeur National des Jeunes A Coeur Joie since July 2002. As a singer, he has been involved with ensembles such as the Chapelle Royale, Les Arts Florissants, A Sei Voci... As a choral conductor he has trained with Eric Ericson and for orchestral conducting he studied in France and abroad with many prestigious conductors. He has directed many notable orchestras, (Harmonia Nova, Savaria Symphony Orchestra of Hungary, les Percussions-Clavier in Lyon...) and is now the guest conductor in the Grand Theatre in Reims. He continues to direct many vocal and instrumental groups in France, some of which he created, and his enthusiasm is always available to inspire the youth of today.
