RENNER ENSEMBLE REGENSBURG Germany
Extensive repertoire for male voice choir
The Renner Ensemble Regensburg is a male voice choir founded in 1987 by Bernd Englbrecht who took the name of Josef Renner for its title, an early 20th century composer and organist originally from Regensburg. The members of the ensemble mostly come from an establishment specialising in musical training, the music college of the Ratisbonne cathedral. This training gives them easy access to the performance of ancient polyphonic music, pieces from the Middle Ages or the Renaissance, but also to the most contemporary, experimental and avant-garde pieces.
But this diversity of repertoire would be nothing without the harmonisation of voices and vocal colours, which pour forth a true and virtuoso interpretation of the divers works. The comments occasioned during the tours that the Renner Ensemble have undertaken in Europe, Asia and Latin America have been unanimous in describing the emotional intensity, the blend of voices and their mastery of vocal technique.
The ensemble has received honours from the most reputed of international competitions : the "Frist" prize at the radiophonic competition, "Let the Peoples Sing" in 1991, that of Tolosa in Spain in 1995, of Trelew in Argentina in 1999 and of Marktoberdorf in Germany in 2001.
Jörg Genslein began his musical career as a singer in Regensburg before studying choral direction in Nuremburg and Dresden, notably with Hans-Christoph Rademann. He took over direction of the Renner Ensemble Regensburg in September 2003 at the age of 26.
