The Gold Company THE GOLD COMPANY
USA

The top American jazz music school

The Gold Company sextet had its beginnings in West Michigan University in Kalamazoo. Young and talented, its members are music and jazz students who find at the heart of the Sextet a place where they can develop their talents as composers, arrangers, singers and instrumentalists, at the same time refining their stage sense and improvisation skills. They have also created a a cheerful band who energetically interpret an eclectic and innovative repertoire, for the great pleasure of the general public, astounding all ages.

The Sextet easily mixes fundamental elements of choral music with subtle jazz variations, augmented by swing and improvisation, with detours into pop and funk. This young elite of the american jazz scene has toured across North America, Europe and South Africa, and has recently given concerts in New York (Lincoln Centre) and participated brilliantly in the International Association for Jazz Education convention.

The Gold Company Sextet regularly share their passion on stage with renowned artists : Bobby McFerrin, Darmon Meader (New York Voices), Janis Siegel (Manhattan Transfer), Don Shelton and Bonnie Herman (Singers Unlimited).

Stephen Zegree, who directs Gold Company, is director of the most prestigious institute of jazz teaching in the USA, the West Michigan University School of Music in Kalamazoo. He is certainly one of the most respected teachers of jazz in the world (classical jazz, piano and voice) and the author of reference books on this subject. He is also the pianist in the group Western Jazz Quartet, in permanent residence at the University. He is unequaled as an arranger and his jazz choral arrangements are widely published. He is often solicited for master classes and juries across the world. Without counting his experience as a conductor and his musical knowledge, he has also trained some of the best jazz and pop musicians on Broadway as in recording studios, and a whole generation of top rank artists in the areas of adaptation and musical education.
