CARMINA SLOVENICASlovenia
A spectacular and magical youth choir.
Carmina Slovenica is a choir of young, gifted Slovenians, whose "place on the world map is somewhere between Berlin and San Francisco", travelling via Caracas, Hong Kong and Buenos Aires. The scope of Carmina Slovenica is international, shining both in the interpretation of great classical works (Mahler's 8th Symphony, Penderecki's Saint Luke Passion, Orff's Carmina Burana), and by their first performances of contemporary pieces, harmonising music and theatre, dramatic art and dance. Apart from their rich repertoire, the choir seeks to promote the idea of "Music for Peace" through international and Slovenian musical heritage. This theme has inspired its highly acclaimed tours of Slovenia and abroad, (South Africa, Canada, Argentina, Chilli, United States, Venezuela, China, Croatia, Germany, Poland, Denmark, Slovakia, Austria, Italy, Great Britain, Belgium, Hungary, Finland, France etc.).
Winners of numerous international competitions such as "Kathaumixw" in Canada, "Golden Gate" or "The Monks" in the United States and also Arezzo in Italy, these unusual young singers provide us with a spectacular view of their talent and the magical sound of their voices.
Karmina Silec studied at the Academy of Music in Zagreb and began her career as a choral conductor when she was 16 years old. She now conducts Carmina Slovenica, the Slovenican National Project Choir and the Chorus Instrumentalis Orchestra. Her work has taken her to some of the greatest concert venues worldwide (Cankarjev Dom in Ljubljana, Francisco Symphony Hall, Hong Kong Cultural Centre...). Her passion and method of conducting has carried her choirs to the highest level of choral singing. Her search for music, often on the Internet, both enriches and energises the choir's repertoire and she has a special interest in contemporary music by women composers. She received the Preseren Prize for her "Vampirabile" project in 2001.
