CantarteCANTARTE
Venezuela

South American Latin warmth.

Cantarte is one of the most famous Latin American vocal ensembles, known for its quality, diversity and its extensive musical programmes. Created by its conductor Cesar Alejandro Carrillo in 1991, it is consecrated to "a cappella" sacred and secular choral music from the XVth century to the present day with a particular taste for anthological or thematic programmes dedicated to the work of one composer, one style, one school or type. This originality has, since 2002, translated into the desire to promote a rich heritage of sacred music - national or international - and seldom heard in Venezuela : Cantarte also has a special affection for premieres.

Following its vocation to promote choral music, Cantarte gave birth in 1996 to the National Festival of Chamber Choirs which permits the most representative of Venezuelan choirs to get together every two years to share their common passion. Since its creation, the choir performs not only in the most prestigious venues of the capital and other major cities of their country, but they also participate regularly, and with great success, in national and international choral festivals and gatherings.

Cantarte has represented Venezuela at the 2nd Choir Festival in Santiago, Cuba in 1993 and in the 7th International Competition Ibagué City in Colombia in 1994 where it received the first prize from the jury, and the audience prize. It has also taken part in the Caribbean Pop Music Seminar of America Cantat III in 2002 as the guest choir.

Cesar Alejandro Carrillo originated from Caracas where he was brilliantly successful in his studies in a range of musical subjects, shown by the teaching of great musicians in the music college "José Angel Lamas" and by obtaining his choral conducting diploma at the Conservatoire of the national youth orchestra. Since 1981, he manages an especially active career as choral conductor, composer, arranger, and teaches worldwide. He has created a number of vocal ensembles and directs several choirs, amongst which is the Orfeon Universitario (Central University in Venezuela) which has been named "national artistic heritage" by the government, and of course Cantarte which he founded.
