The joy of ancient music to the power of six

The Banchieri Singers are six singers from the celebrated Zoltan Kodaly school of music and singing and also from the children's choir Cantemus - one of the great international reference points in the training of children for choir singing. In a country where music is taught from the earliest age, these six musicians decided to found their own group in 1988.

Worthy heirs of Kodaly, their wish is to transmit to as many as possible the love of ensemble singing and to popularise it. Their modest ambition is to broadcast the Kodaly method of learning music, so that everyone can access and enjoy it. This is why they have chosen the name of Adriano Banchieri for their ensemble, and have made theirs the catch-phrase of this astonishing 16th Century musical monk : "As well as serious and dramatic works, people need joy, pieces providing light entertainment. Do one of them well and enjoy the other."

From Madrigals to the Renaissance, sacred music, contemporary Hungarian music or popular songs arranged by themselves : whatever the programme we are always offered excellence and variety, to the delight of lovers of ancient music (and contemporary). Their singing talent also expresses itself across numerous high quality master classes which they organise or participate in, in collaboration with different masters of the art, such as the King's Singers, Jeremy Jackson and Alastair Thompson to name but a few.

Their talent has been rewarded by internationally recognised prizes : Arezzo International Competition, from Tolosa or Debrecen etc. This recognition and these distinctions have pushed them to turn professional and undertake tours in Japan, Europe, and in the United States. They have recorded 7 discs so far, for example "Musica", "Lily song" and "L'anima spiro".

The singers : Ildiko Foldesi and Olga Major (soprano) - Laszlo Leanyvari (counter tenor) - Szilard Szilagyi (tenor) - Soma Szabo (baritone) - Gabor Nagy (bass).
